Terms of service

Kiko (heykikoapp.com) is provided by [TODO: legal entity name], based in [TODO: jurisdiction] (“we”). By creating an account or using Kiko you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Kiko.

• You must be at least [TODO: minimum age] years old to create an account.
• Give a real email address, keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has got into your account.
• One account is for one person. Please do not share it.
• You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account.

Some or all of Kiko may require a paid subscription. The price, what it includes, and how often you are billed are shown before you subscribe. Payments are handled by Stripe.

• Renewal. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel.
• Cancelling. Cancel any time from Settings → Account. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for, and you will not be charged again.
• Refunds. [TODO: refund policy (e.g. none for partial periods, or a refund window for new subscriptions), and any statutory rights that apply]
• Price changes. We will tell you by email at least [TODO: notice period] before a new price applies to you, and you can cancel before it does.
• Waitlist discount. Everyone who joins the waitlist before Kiko opens gets 25% off the standard price for as long as their subscription stays active. If the subscription ends, the discount ends with it.

Use Kiko to learn Japanese. Please do not:

• break the law, or use Kiko to harass, threaten or harm anyone;
• try to get Kiko's AI to produce harmful or illegal content, or use it for anything other than language practice;
• send automated or excessive requests, scrape the service, or try to get around usage limits;
• probe, attack or disrupt Kiko or the services it runs on, or access other people's data;
• copy, resell or build a competing product from Kiko's content or AI output at scale.

We may suspend or close an account that does these things. Where we reasonably can, we will warn you first.

Kiko's conversations, corrections, explanations, readings and levels are generated by AI. They are usually helpful and sometimes wrong: a correction can be unnecessary, an explanation can be off, and a reading or JLPT level can be mistaken. Treat Kiko as a practice partner, not an authority, and check anything important — especially anything you will rely on in a real situation such as a medical or legal one — with a reliable source or a person.

What you write and say in Kiko stays yours. You give us permission to store and process it only to run Kiko for you, as described in the privacy policy. You can export or delete it at any time.

Kiko's software, design, characters (including Kiko the rabbit), scenes, phrase lists and guides belong to us. You may use them for your own learning while you use Kiko.

Kiko is a young product. Features will change, and some may be added or removed. If we ever shut Kiko down, we will give you at least [TODO: notice period] notice, a chance to export your data, and a pro-rata refund of any prepaid subscription.

We provide Kiko “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the [TODO: period, e.g. 12 months] before the claim. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you by email at least [TODO: notice period] before the change takes effect. If you keep using Kiko after that, the new terms apply; if you do not agree, you can cancel and delete your account.
